A Complete Story

Posted in Stories. on March 3, 2010 by Dev!l

Teresa rummaged through the closet of her grandfather, soon her eyes fixated upon the thing she was looking for. It was a locked box to which only she had the key, as the will requested. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath remembering the will of her now deceased grandfather, “To Teresa I leave the balance in my Cayman Shore’s Bank and also the black box hidden under my books in my closet. The contents of that box are for Teresa alone. Oh and Teresa, remember my last words…” It had been almost 2 months since her grandfather had passed away. Finally she had summoned the nerve to search and see the contents of the box. Frankly, she didn’t know what to expect. Knowing her grandfather she knew she wouldn’t be surprised if a rubber snake bounced out when she opened the box. She slowly wiped the dust of the box and with a deep breath opened the box. Funnily enough no snake bounced out. It was an ordinary looking black box with a lock on it. The insides of the box were colored white; it was empty except for a piece of black paper taped exactly at the center of the box. Teresa couldn’t help but smile when she read what was written on the piece of paper. Those were the exact last words of her grandfather, “Nothing is what it seems.” Truly her grandfather knew how to be eccentric. Smiling, she gently turned the box over and tapped it at the bottom. Surely enough, a false bottom popped open and a black diary fell near her feet. She slowly bent and picked it up.

“Ah, so this is the infamous diary of Dada… I wonder why did he not burn it like the rest of the records of his past…” Teresa wondered to herself as she stared at the diary.

The diary looked way past its prime, but one could clearly discern that this diary in its day must had put quite a dent in its owner’s pocket. In italic letters of what appeared to be pure silver water, was written the name of her grandfather on the cover. The diary had a gold ribbon as a bookmark which was almost halfway through the diary. “Way to go granpa…” Teresa smiled at her thought and sat down on the bed.

She slowly opened the diary. The first page as usual was empty… the second page empty… the third… empty… Teresa hastily turned the pages of the diary but all were blank. Maybe her grandfather had had the last laugh after all. Dejectedly, she threw the diary next to her and fell backwards on the bed. “All this trouble just to show me his fancy diary? Seriously, now I agree with Mom, that old man was tripped.” Teresa thought in anger as she stared at the strange looking lamp placed at the side table of the bed. The lamp was unlike anything she had ever seen. It had a strange looking bulb marked, “UV light.” “Now seriously, why the hell did he need a UV light lamp in his…?” Teresa stopped dead right there. “Nothing is what it seems… Of course how stupid of me…” Teresa said aloud slapping her head. She picked up the diary once more.

Soon, she sat in the dark with the UV light turned on. She placed the diary under the lamp but again all in vain, there was nothing on the first few pages of the diary… She dolefully opened the page that was bookmarked by the golden ribbon. “Ha wouldn’t be surprised if it is empty too…” But this page wasn’t empty. No sir, on that page was the writing of her grandfather. “Really granpa… You had a lot of free times on your hands, didn’t you…?” Teresa thought as she couldn’t help but laugh at the trauma her grandfather had put her through.

She slowly began to read…

“Hey angel… Looks like you remembered the one lesson I always taught you… guess I am proud of you for that. This diary was gifted to me by the CEO of a big corporation just to get on my good side. Back then I never did find a use for it as I was always too busy with other stuff in my life that I never got time to write in some silly diary. But today, I found a use for it… The date today is 28 February. You visited today… but before going you did ask me one question I couldn’t answer. Well I thought about it after you left and my answer to your question is as follows… HAH guess this old fool found some use for this waste in his closet after all.

The thing I am about to tell you, is something that only a few selected souls on this good earth know… I know the following story might seem boring to you but I have way too much time on my hand so before finally meeting my maker I would like to share this with you.

I was a teenager back when this happened. The moment that changed my life forever. The one single moment in my life when for the first time I felt complete. The feeling sweetie, was truly unforgettable. It was a feeling unlike any other I ever experienced in my entire life. It was a dark night, unlike any other I had ever seen and experienced. Life was tough upon me in those days and I was tired of battling it. Some of my friendships had tattered apart and the memory of those lost friends was throbbing in my soul like a splinter as each second passed. Nothing in this world seemed right to me. Each day I got up just by the shear will of somehow making it through the day. And that night, as I sat by my window, crying, I heard a small knock on my door. It was one of my best friends on the other side. Now, back then I was too much of a fool to admit the fact that yes, I do have best friends. It was ……… (The name was written but then crossed over many times.) I always admired her… at least that was what I told myself each day but guess I did more than that… I loved her with all my heart but never did have the courage to say it to her. She knocked again, and I slowly wiping my tears opened the door and invited her in. As we sat opposite to each other, she looked at me and smiled. I always loved to watch her angelic and innocent smile. But today something was different. There was a kind of melancholy in her eyes, like she knew something. I wanted to ask her but stopped myself for some unknown reason. As the night grew, we talked over different matters. We talked of love, of hate, of education and God knows what else. Usually I felt really comfortable around her but today my heart beat strangely. It was like my sixth sense was yelling of the arrival of an unknown storm. Now, remember not all storms in one’s life are disastrous. Guess this was one of those which turned things around for me. She slowly changed the topic back to liking and love. We started talking about that. I couldn’t help but notice the excitement and melancholy in her eyes increase as we discussed this topic further. Something in my heart was constantly advising me to make a run for it. Perhaps she knew. But my feet had turned cold. Her stare was piercing through my body and binding me to the seat I was sitting upon. Her each sentence melted the wall of silence and mystique I had made around me. I knew that she wanted to hear what I had been hiding in my heart and denying all this time. She knew. There was no doubt about that. So, I finally girded up my lions and slowly spoke, “hey… I love you…” At that exact moment there was a spark in her eyes. My heart had stopped beating… everything around me had stopped existing. Her eyes were all that I could see at that time. It was all that I wanted to see. She at first smiled then giggled. My heart beat fastened again. I wanted to run away as fast as I could and not look back. “What will happen now? What should I do…? This is my first time saying I love you to someone… what about my image… should I even care about my image right now?” These thoughts gushed my mind. It was at that time she slowly spoke… “I love you too.” That moment I can never forget… Her sweet voice still soothes my ears to this very day. At that moment everything else in this world for me, had stopped existing. There was nothing but her and her alone. All my thoughts transfixed upon her only. No more did darkness corrupt my soul or stench my thoughts. No longer was I the prisoner of my will to move forward. The fetters of solitude and loneliness I had once imposed on myself were broken. Nothing mattered anymore. My perception of time stopped. It was as if all my life the void I had searched to fill, was finally no more. All my aspirations, all my hopes, all my goals had faded away as I didn’t want them anymore. All my being just wanted to stay in that moment forever. My soul no longer felt restless, unhappy or incomplete. It had found what it had searched for all this time. It had found its Avalon… its nirvana. At that moment in time I felt no regret and no fear what so ever. I felt immortal as if I never knew or will know the meaning of the word, “pain”. There was nothing but complete and absolute happiness that ran through my veins. It was the moment when even if death had clutched me in its evil and dark claws, I would had happily given myself away without a fight for the purpose of my life… the one purpose that overrides all the other ones had been fulfilled. I felt safe… The feeling of happiness and content was too great for me to accurately describe in just mere words. Nothing in this world could define my exact feelings at that point in time… but if I may, being a human try… I would say in one sentence… “At that moment, I felt complete.”

Now, angel I won’t sit here and try to explain how I felt in my broken and repetitive sentences. It’s human nature to not be able to explain its emotions just through words alone. If you love someone and you try to tell them the extent of your love through mere words alone… then remember there is no fool greater than you on this planet. Even with all the words and actions that you can muster, this one lifetime will never be enough to show the extent of your love for a person. That is if you truly love that person. I tried my best to tell you how I felt sweetie, I really don’t know how much I succeeded. Now if you remember you asked me, “What did you learn from your life grandpa?” Well sweetie, I don’t know what I learnt was something I really want you to learn through my words alone. You have to go out there and experience it to really know what this life is all about. But I guess if I must tell you… I would say that to me this life was just finding a moment that completed me. Now, you must reckon that you should stop after that moment. Well you can’t be more wrong. You see my love, life doesn’t end at that moment but it begins the moment you feel complete. No longer do you hide in shells or plan things. No longer do you feel insecure or voided. Now, I know many other philosophers out there may disagree with this old fool that is your grandfather but to me life is nothing but love. If you don’t feel complete at least once in your life… if you don’t love and don’t spread your love then you haven’t lived at all to me.”

Teresa closed the diary and slowly wiped the tears that fondled her cheek. “You really HAD to answer my question didn’t you grandpa… Guess your right I should go out there and experience life to really know what it is all about instead of asking others… but thanks for the advice old man… I will always miss you… Hope you will watch me from the heavens above cause your angel is going to show you that she too can live life…” Teresa said to herself as she stared out the bedroom window at the vacant sky above.

Another Love Story

Posted in Stories. on March 2, 2010 by Dev!l

Writer’s Note: This story was written by a very bored me and well I am only publishing it as some people asked me to do so. I really don’t like it… but ah well…

His eyes opened in defiance of his will to sleep more. It was early… way too early for him to be awake.  He turned off the alarm before it rang. It was almost months now that he had heard it rang. He needn’t look at the clock for he knew what time it was. It was always the same time when he woke up. All further attempts to sleep were futile and always resulted in horrible nightmares. His name was long forgotten, he was now only known as ice shadow. For the rank he had reached there was no record left of his existence. On papers he had died long ago.

He picked up his uniform and stared at the tag… “Major Ice Shadow” Major indeed. He was in the special black ops division of the country’s military. A handpicked, voluntary shadow squad whose members existence was known only to a selected few. A myth even among the high ranking officials of the military, “The Who’s” as they were known, was the most efficient and ruthless band of assassins which existed in the history of the country. Their name came from the myth that they only asked one question before a mission, “Who?” They were given many other names but all names and stories in the end dubbed them to be nothing more than a myth. Mythical it did seem 6 perfect soldiers, with no emotion, no life, no regrets and only responding to each and every command with “yes sir”. The perfect killing machines… the ones a king ransom was paid to train but no matter how much “the who’s” tried they sometimes did feel, they sometimes did miss their past lives… they were, after all… human.

At a distance a bell rang, It was time for their next mission. It had come up unexpectedly and they were to be briefed en-route towards the destination. “The target is Miss Nena Segal. She must be eliminated today and right now for if you fail today our enemies will have crucial defense information of our country. She is smart as they come so it wouldn’t surprise me if she has a few surprises up his sleeves or is ready for you. Approach with caution! Good luck and God speed men.” A voice said over the intercom as “the who’s” geared up.

Nena Segal… A name he always tried to forget but no matter how much he tried he couldn’t forget her… She was after all the love of his life. The love he had given up for the call of duty. For where he stood the only love he was allowed to have was the love for the country. He was supposed to be dead on the inside but no matter how much he tried, her enchanting eyes had bewitched him. She truly was one of a kind. It had been so long since he had seen her face… He remembered that magical night when she gave a soft enticing kiss on his lips… the kiss that gave wind to an ever burning fire of love that after so much time still burnt strong. He remembered the feel of her warm breath, the taste of her heavenly lips, the touch of her angelic hands, the feel of her soft curved body against his, the silkiness of her hair, the beating of her heart, the smell of her perfume… He remembered it all. How she laughed when he proposed to her, thinking how dumb he looked. How she hugged him saying, “So it took you this long to say this? Idiot… I love you too.” But alas the flowers that bloom in the spring must wither in the autumn. It was a love that was never meant to last. He, the suicide soldier always living the shadows… she the beauty queen always attracting people wherever she went… He knew what he had to do. She deserved better… she deserved someone who didn’t live his life with a sword hanging over his head. Someone who didn’t wake up everyday to the slogan, “kill or be killed.” Someone a little more… human. That was when he was asked to join the secret black ops division. He watched her cry her heart out at his fake funeral and with each tear she dropped, he died a little more inside. How she swore revenge against everyone who was responsible… He never thought she would go this far… But today her picture was  a poignant reminder of how much time had passed and how people change with time…

“Major, ETA in t – 20 minutes. What’s the plan?”

“Huh… Oh yea the plan. Team A under will take position here. Team B will take position here. Nova as always will be my backup sniper. I will personally execute the target; you all will be my backup. The enemy is smart so scope around but don’t give away your positions. You all will remain cold unless it is absolutely necessary!”

“Sir, yes sir!” the group spoke unanimously.

He stared at his trembling hand, the hand that had assassinated every kind of person without any hesitation. The heart that never held any regrets was beating hard today. His 6 million dollar hands were refusing to obey the will of his brain and as they made their way towards their designated points the trembling and the heart rate only increased.

“Ray, you know you don’t have to do this. Allow me.” Nova his only friend who knew of his existence spoke slowly to him so not to attract unwanted attention.

“Huh? You know the person you speak of died long ago,” Ice shadow spoke slowly.

“Really? If that person had died long ago then today his hands wouldn’t be trembling like he had arthritis. The hands which never trembled while killing even a newly born child tremble today for the sake of love. Face it you never could forget her. You never could move on.”

“I loved her with everything I had. She deserved better.”

“BULLSHIT!!! You wanted her… you needed her but your stupid ego got in the way! You my friend are incomplete without her. But I guess it’s too late now. So please don’t commit suicide one more time.”

“Oh no I am not committing suicide my friend. I came in this world as a symbol of love and I intend to go out the same way.”

Nova stood motionless. He knew what was to be done. He silently wiped his tear and took his sniping position.

“Hey Ray… I have one final request… Don’t turn your intercom off from my frequency… I wish to hear it.”

Ray just nodded and silently vanished into the darkness.

“WHAT THE HELL? ICE SHADOW DIED?” A voice boomed over the intercom.

“Yes sir, he had no choice the target was well prepared so he took the only possible way of eliminating the target. He acted as a suicide bomber to distract the attention of the guards so we could make our escape.”

“And the target?”

“Ice Shadow wasn’t the kind to go quietly into the night. He took her with him.”

“Have all traces of any involvement from the military been removed?”

“Sir, yes sir!”

“Good. He was one of the best we ever had. Alright major Nova you are to search for his replacement. Over and out.”

“Over and out General.” Nova replied as he threw the walkie talkie away and smiled. Today he had seen what true happiness looked like. The happiness on both the faces of Ray and Nena as they both embraced each other. “Truly, we are the weakest who ever existed… Perfect assassins, hahaha… love truly is the strongest weapon mankind possesses. The weapon that never was sought or wielded by those with corrupted and power hungry hearts… perhaps its power scared them… the one thing that truly makes us… fearless…” Nova said to himself as he thought about the last moment of his friend… ‘“Hey Nena… You know why am I here… we promised to stay together in this life and the other… this life I couldn’t keep my promise but I will try my best to keep it in the next life…”

“As long as I have you I don’t care whether I am alive or dead…” Nena whispered back as she embraced Ray tightly and imparted a last soft immortal kiss on his lips with a smile…’

Story of Fei – The Gallant

Posted in Stories. on March 2, 2010 by Dev!l

“The walls have been breached!!! Retreat!!! Fall back to the castle!!!” The captain yelled over the death throes of his men. The city of Laile was burning. After the fifth continuous day of regular bombardment from siege weaponry the city’s defenses had finally given away and the once impenetrable walls of Laile no longer stood tall in pride and vanity. The city that had never seen the face of intruders into its walls was now being overrun with hordes of masses thirsting for the blood of its people.

The city of Laile, the once proud and power drowned capital of the Jarahkal Empire was now finally being decimated to dust. The 6th Jarahkal emperor, engulfed by pride and power had long forgotten the brave and honorable ways of his ancestors. He cared neither for the people nor the empire. His only concern was to live a life of vanity, lust, greed and indolence. Soon corruption and misuse of power ran rampant through out his empire. It wasn’t long till the lack of concern of the emperor gave rise to many rebellious movements through out his empire. The Jarahkal Empire due to its prosperity always attracted the jealous eyes of its neighbours and now as the Empire was slowly corroding from the inside and the its men loosing their morale with each rebellion, neighboring countries soon began attacking and in no time conquered or bribed their way through the resistance and now stood blood thirsty before the rich and prosperous city of Laile. Truly greed and jealousy when mixed together derives humans insane and in his insanity he does not consider the number of other lives he mows down to achieve what his heart desires.

The defenders of Laile fought gallantly but it was all in vain. They lacked leadership… they lacked the presence of their king on the field… they lacked the will to fight… “We are going to lose… the city will fall… nothing we can do can stop these monsters from killing us…” was a common phrase in the ranks of the military of Laile now. After the 4th day of siege many of the men had either retreated or secretly joined the enemy. But even in these darkened time captain Fei remained loyal to the throne of Laile. Rescued from utter poverty and destruction by the 5th emperor, Fei had joined the military and soon earned the title of “the terror of Laile.” His mere presence on the battlefield was enough to make the knees of his enemies shatter.

But even Fei on this day, have had enough. Ashes sifted from where once the beautiful outer city of Laile stood and blood bathed the inner city in a deep shade of red. They were safe for now as the enemy robbed the city and enjoyed the spoils the city of Laile had to offer. Every now and then an agonizing scream would be heard of a citizen who failed to make it into the sanctity of the castle. The captain closed his eyes. For he knew soon the enemy would tire of the plundering and pursue their true goal again. Once more will they attack and break through the gates. He only wondered how long did they have… The horrors of war were now dawning upon him. He looked around at his men who dejectedly stared at the castle gates thinking the same thing he was… Men… if that was a word to describe them… Some of them were so young that they haven’t lived to see more than 15 springs and some of them were so old that they had lived well past their prime. Many had never held weapons before. Only a small faction of useful soldiers was left alive. He shivered upon the thought of watching a man slaughter… He knew what he had to do.

“Emperor Riise… Have you heard nothing I have said? The kingdom burns… The throne of Laile is about to fall and you are asking for a girl?” Fei said as he stared at the emperor in disbelief.

“Fei… Fei… Our loss is imminent… so why fight it? You want me to go out there and fight with the soldiers? Ridiculous! It will alter nothing… Fate has spoken there is nothing we, men can do about it. So, my advice to you would be to get a beautiful girl, enjoy the time you have before the enemy breach the castle gates as well and then come and escape with me through the secret passages of the castle. I shalt need a strong escort.”

“What about the honor of your ancestors?”

“Bah, who cares what a bunch of dead people think of me? Now go and bring me a beautiful virgin! I wish to feel like a man.”

The final line had been drawn. Fei drew out his sword. “You wish to feel like a man? Come let me honor that request with cold hard steel!”

“Fei have you gone mad? I am the EMPEROR! You swore your loyalty to me!”

“You’re wrong I swore my loyalty to your father and the city of Laile, and it is that loyalty that compels me to draw the blood of a citizen of Laile. Many a times this sword has tasted the blood of generals, commanders and princes but never a king… Even though I am to stain it with your blood I have no choice…”

The emperor fell to his knees and started to grovel. “Fei what do you want? Riches? Women? The throne? You can have it all… to damnation with the people and the city. Spare my life; you haven’t much time; its time to escape… I can already hear them trying to knock the gates down.”

“I rather die in honor than to run like a coward” Fei said as with a swift movement of the sword, he brought the Jarahkal line of emperors to an end.

“Captain, the gates won’t hold out much longer. What are the orders of the Emperor?”

“There is no emperor… I have slain that pathetic low life known to us as the emperor.” Fei said but his voice was drowned out by the hustle of soldiers running around frantically.

“What sir?”

“I SAID I HAVE SLAIN THE EMPEROR!” Fei shouted.

All of a sudden everyone stopped. There was no sound except that of the enemy banging heavy wood against the castle door.

Fei stared at the soldiers who just glared back at him, impervious of the existence of the external threat. “He rather wished to rape our people and flee than to fight and die with us. I rather die as a free man than to serve under a corrupt king. If I have done wrong, then come and take my life. I forfeit my life.”

“Doesn’t matter… It will take only a little time for them to break through and slaughter us all. So its better to die with you as our leader than that bastard.”

Fei glared at the morale less troops and slowly spoke, “You all are free… no more are you bounded by any promises made to the throne… No more are you subjected to the grotesque and corrupted filth calling themselves your masters… My brothers, today, you are your own masters! For that I request you to stand! Today the enemy stands at your gates lusting for your blood. They wish to destroy everything that we ever cherished… they wish to tear asunder everything that we ever loved… they walk our streets plaguing them with their very existence… they mutilate the corpses of our brethren who fought hard and fell in honor… It is for that honor I bid you to STAND! Stand and fight for everything that you hold dear… For now all I can see in your eyes is fear… Fear that this will be a man slaughter and you have lived your life awry. Nay my brothers… This won’t be a man slaughter… We will not die with the regret that we had wasted our life… For we will stand our ground and fight for everything that we hold dear! Mount your horses brethren if you wish to follow me into honor… if you wish to stare death right in the eyes and say nay, now is not the time… now is not the time for us but it is time for you to go away.” Fei raised his sword in the air as he mounted his horse. “Our numbers may be small but those with courage know no regret… they know not the meaning of the word retreat! RIDE WITH ME MY BRETHREN… I the TERROR OF LAILE COMMAND YOU RIDE WITH ME ON THIS RED DAY … TO DEATHHHH!!!” he yelled…

“TO DEATH” The men shouted back in unison.

“TO DEATHHHH!!!” Fei yelled again…

Roars of soldiers were heard as they mounted their horses ready to ride out towards what many would dub as certain suicide.

“OPEN THE GATES” Fei bellowed.

The gates of the castle swung open as Fei and his men stared at the enemy in the eye. Upon seeing such readiness of their prey, the enemy commander shouted, “Get in rank maggots.” But it was too late. The hands of his men shivered as they saw the fierceness and the fearlessness of their once so called prey… It was time for the hunters to become the hunted.

“For LAILE!” Fei yelled as he sounded the charge and pierced through the enemy ranks like an arrow out of a bow.

Human spirit is one of the greatest weapons that they possess. Normally, we underestimate our own selves but if we truly set out to achieve something nothing on this planet can stop us from getting it… At times like this even fate rewrites itself… That is what happened that day… The handful men of Laile stood their ground and defended what they believed in… It is at times like these even God pitches in to help…

The weather suddenly changed and a storm brewed tearing through the enemy ranks outside the city… It is said that the survivors of the raiders of Laile dub the army of Laile as the demons from hell. It was on this day Fei was given a new name… “Emperor Fei – The Gallant.” This name was given not by his men… but by the enemy.
